The Spirit Aeronautics team recommends replacing the legacy Primus® Weather Radar Systems with the IntuVue™ RDR-7000 Weather Radars System. The RDR -7000 system resolves the obsolescence issues and offers improved safety features for the operator.

Honeywell has been the leading premier provider of onboard weather radar for decades. An end-of-life was issued in 2019 for the Primus® 880, 660, 440, and the 331 weather radar systems. 

Due to parts obsolescence, rising costs, and extended lead times, Honeywell is removing Primus® Weather Radar Systems from the MSP Avionics standard coverage and introducing the MSP Legacy Weather Radars Extended Support program.

What is changing? 

• MSP will no longer be covering Primus® Weather Radar Systems components as part of the MSP Avionics standard coverage 
• The MSP Legacy Weather Radar Systems Extended Support was created to provide like-for-like exchanges thru December 31st, 2024.

Why is it changing? 

• Due to components obsolescence, rising costs, and extended lead times associated with the Primus® 880, 660, 440, 331, and 700 weather radar components, Honeywell's ability to maintain these radars has become limited, and repair capabilities will end by June 30th, 2023. 
• To address the obsolescence issues on the Primus® Weather Radar System, Honeywell has introduced the IntuVue™ RDR-7000 Weather Radar System, which is now the Weather Radar System covered under MSP Avionics standard coverage. 

 What are the available options in the absence of the Legacy Weather Radar standard coverage? 

• Honeywell recommends the operators to replace their Primus® Weather Radar Systems with the IntuVue™ RDR-7000 Weather Radars System. This system resolves the component obsolescence issues and offers improved features for the operator. 
• For MSP Avionics customers needing additional time to upgrade, Honeywell has developed the MSP Legacy Weather Radar Extended Support Program. This program provides like for like exchanges thru December 31st, 2024 and can be converted to credits toward the purchase of the IntuVue™ RDR-7000 Weather Radar System. Enrollment must be completed by December 31st, 2022.
• Honeywell will also continue to provide support thru Honeywell Aerospace Trading (HAT) and SPEX while supply lasts.
